The Big Buddha Mountain Carving (Khao Chi Chan)

One of the largest Buddha images in the world, 130 meters high. A huge golden Buddha image is depicted on the mountain with gold leaf filled engraving known as ‘Khao Chi Chan’ and ‘Laser Buddha’, is one of Thailand’s best-known landmark attractions in Amphoe Sattahip, 20 Kilometre far from Central Pattaya. The drive by car takes 25-30 Minutes.

The Khao Chi Chan carving is an amazing design in the Sukhothai style and depicts a seated Buddha with hand on knee.

Buddha Mountain acquired its distinctive shape after being quarried for stone during the Vietnam War, the stone was used in the construction of U’tapao Airport, and later for the construction of local roads. The image was designed using Computer Software and drawn onto the side by using Laser Technology. The project was completed entirely at night, so the light of the laser could be seen more clearly. Finally during day time image is fixed and adjusted and gold was used to fill the sculpture. the famous Buddha image was created in 1996 to commemorate King Bhumibol Adulyadej’s 50th year on the throne.

The area surrounding the mountain is a park filled with lush green grasses, flowers, lotus ponds, and open-air pavilions which make this a perfect spot for a picnic. You can relax in the peaceful atmosphere and beautiful surroundings. There are a large parking area and food and drink available on site just opposite the road.
